Diabetic Foot Screening for Sensation Loss
Individuals with diabetes are at a higher risk for lower limb complications and require routine foot examinations. Jamar Disposable Monofilaments are used as a diabetic foot screening tool to detect early sensory loss. These monofilaments use repeatable force to ensure consistent and accurate results in the comfort of your own home. This testing tool is often used in diabetic patients at risk of amputation.
Evaluate for LEAP or LOPS with Monofilaments
To test for LEAP, disposable monofilaments show three test sites for the top of the foot and nine test sites for the bottom of the foot. Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention can help reduce lower extremity amputations. LEAP delivers 10 grams of force to identify patients with a foot at risk of developing loss of sensation. To test for LOPS, disposable monofilaments show five test sites for the bottom of each foot. Loss of Preventive Sensation is a major risk factor for developing diabetic and neuropathic foot ulcers which can lead to foot amputation. LOPS detects for early reduced sensation with10 grams of force as well.
Disposable Testing Tool for Easy-Touch Motion
Jamar Disposable Monofilaments are designed for easy-touch motion and include an instruction card highlighting all of the test sites. To use the monofilament, gently touch the filament to the skin on your foot for 2-3 seconds. Push the monofilament against the sole of the foot just enough to make the filament bend. If you don’t feel the filament bending, you’ve tested negative and are at risk of developing sensory loss.
